Feb 06, Most tyres have a high tensile steel cable running around the tyre bead (x2). You generally can only cut through this is a hacksaw (hard work) or grinder with a cutting disk.
Using an axe or those types of tools generally stuffs the tool before it cuts the cable (I know I've tried). Mar 25, I would suggest making a cut, either with the hacksaw or boltcutters, whichever works best (tin snips may also work) and leaving the tyre in place for a while before removing it.
If they are grown into the trunk this will give some stretch as the tree grows, and you may be able to make a cut on the other side next year, so eventually the tyre will fall stumpcutter.barted Reading Time: 5 mins. May 26, The tires need to come off asap.
There is steel wire in the tire so be careful cutting them. I would make a cut on opposite sides and separate it. You will probably damage some roots during the process but they will probably be girdling roots anyway and not be that much of a problem. Post a picture after the tires are off and we can get a look.
